Occupational Therapy
What is paediatric occupational therapy?
Paediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need for everyday activities such as writing, dressing, eating, and playing. Occupational therapists work with children to improve fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-care abilities, and participation in school and home activities.
What conditions do occupational therapists treat?
Our occupational therapists work with children who have developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder, learning difficulties, and challenges with handwriting, self-care, or daily routines.
What does an occupational therapy assessment involve?
An OT assessment typically involves observing your child during play and structured activities, standardised testing, gathering information from parents and teachers, and reviewing any existing reports. The assessment helps us understand your child's strengths and areas where they may need support, and allows us to create an individualised therapy plan.
Speech & Language Therapy
What is speech and language therapy?
Speech and language therapy helps children develop their communication skills, including speech sounds, language comprehension, expressive language, social communication, fluency, and voice. Our speech therapists work with children to overcome communication challenges through fun, engaging activities.
When should my child see a speech therapist?
You may want to consider a speech therapy assessment if your child is not meeting speech and language milestones, is difficult to understand, has trouble following instructions, has limited vocabulary for their age, stutters or has difficulty with fluency, or struggles with social communication.
What does a speech therapy session look like?
Speech therapy sessions are play-based and tailored to your child's age and interests. Sessions typically last 45 minutes and may include games, books, toys, and activities designed to target specific speech and language goals. Parents are encouraged to observe and learn strategies they can use at home.
